Much Ado About Nothing
by William Shakespeare
Produced by Rasaka Theatre Company
Opened September 2013 at Victory Gardens
This production was part creative response to local casting controversies, part experiment in the mashup of culturally specific styles, and primarily a love letter to Bollywood — a genre that Lavina believes is pure joy and should be celebrated by and accessible to all. Rasaka’s inaugural production as part of Victory Gardens’ Resident Theatre Program.
Centerstage: “Infectiously joyous… the concept is an excellent fit for the text’s high energy celebration of love, laughter and friendship and Jadhwani integrates it in very organic ways.”
Chicago Reader: “…a blend of Eastern and Western acting styles and fashions, multiracial casting, and the occasional out-of-nowhere dance sequence capture the tumult and ambiguity of the main plot.”
Time Out Chicago: “Director Lavina Jadhwani and her design team bring clever ideas to the table.”
Featuring Owais Ahmed, Anu Bhatt, Diana Coates, Arya Daire, Daniel Gilbert, Susie Griffith, Kamal Hans, Nicholas Loumos, Danny Luwe, Tim Martin, Josh Mattingly, Gustavo Obregon, Abbas Salem, John Walski, and Scot West.
