Dickens’ beloved tale of aspiration, intrigue, and romance is thrillingly transplanted to a colonized India by award-winning British Bengali playwright Tanika Gupta. Co-directed with Nick Sandys (Artistic Director, Remy Bumppo Theatre Company).
Chicago Tribune: “It’s entirely clear from Remy Bumppo and Silk Road Rising’s ambitious and intelligent co-production of Gupta’s sprawling adaptation that Dickens grafts well in the soil of the subcontinent.”
Chicago Reader: “Directors Lavina Jadhwani and Nick Sandys tell the tale convincingly… the show is full of carefully etched performances and well-shaped dramatic arcs.”
Windy City Times: “This collaboration of the Silk Road Rising and Remy Bumppo Theatre companies, likewise jointly directed by Lavina Jadhwani and Nick Sandys, consolidates the resources of both troupes to explicate Dickens’ study of social inequities with a clarity unmistakable even by audiences within our allegedly ‘classless’ nation.”
